Trivia for Paradox

- Since it's been completed, Paradox got selected for over 10 international film festivals, including Tribeca, Starz Denver, LA Shorts Fest, Moondance, Cleveland, Cracow and Mill Valley. It has won 5 awards including Best Short Film at the Los Angeles Method Fest, 2nd Best Live Action Over 15 min at Palm Springs, and First Place for Best Screenplay at the Rhode Island IFF.

- Writer/Director Jeremy Haccoun is French. He made Paradox while living in the UK for about a year, after he'd been hired by a London-based commercials production company.

- Everything inside the well was shot in a studio facility in London, then completed with CGI in post-production. The 4 meters high well set was built by Carl (head of construction) and the director. They spent ten days erecting a wooden structure, moulding hundreds of plaster bricks and painting them. The set was given the final seal of authenticity by two runners dripping water down the wall from plastic bottles.

- The director also wrote the film, organised his casting sessions and met about 70 actors to find his two characters. The film in the can, Haccoun did all the visual effects by himself. He learned how to use the software to recreate a CG well from scratch in the most ambitious shots, and composited about 30 green screen shots. He also did the editing, the grading and the whole of the sound design.

- The music was done by Siddhartha Barnhoorn, a 24 years-old Dutch composer who did it all on his computer. He lives in Holland and was found via internet.

- The film was shot on standard definition Mini-DV, but using a Mini35 adapter in order to reduce the depth of field and get a “film look”. This system allows to mount film lenses at the front of the camcorder.
